Experimental Techniques

Hotwire Anemometry

The group is equipped with multiple CTA bridges allowing single and multi-wire measurements. Furtermore, thermal boundary layer measurements are also possible.

Optical Velocimetry

The group is equipped with several cameras (including modern sCMOS cameras) and high energy laser sources. Together with state-of-the art image-processing software, planar, 2 and 3 components PIV and PTV are available as well as tomographic PIV and PTV.

Pressure Measurements

Stationary pressure measurements are possible within a broad range of flows. Skin friction measurements can also be performed with in-house developed pressure probes. Furtermore, unsteady pressure measurements, by means of microphones and Kulite sensors, are available too.

Force Measurements

The force-measurement equipment available at the group allows to measure from the feeble skin friction forces acting on a surface to the considerable aerodynamic forces acting on large scale model.

Infrared Thermography

State of the art thermography is also a measurement technique available at the group. It is exploited to measure the heat transfer and the skin friction  spatio-temporal evolution of wall-bounded flows.
